VON
HARRY LANETE – ON HIS OWN
by: Patricia Bermudez-Hizon
(February 13, 2010)
It must’ve been
a riot growing up in a family of 4
boys who were just as crazy over basketball
as their father who played college
hoops in the south. Ascof Lagundi’s
newly recruited point guard Von Harry
Lanete shares that it was chaotic
to have that much testosterone enclosed
within four walls but luckily his
mother was always around to calm the
turbulence.

Excel
Roof Wanted It More
by Joseph W. Buduan (March
31, 2010)
Sports writers, book makers,
and even the bar owls and barbershop denizens
have always said it, “The one who
wants it more will win it.” This of
course refers to those instances when an
underdog faces off against a favored opponent.
Whether it be in the octagon of mixed martial
arts, the grass courts of Wimbledon, the
links of Augusta, the squared circle of
the sweet science or yes, the hard wood
of the basketball court, the one who wants
it more will win. >>

Varsity
Squads Rules
by Joseph W. Buduan (March
25, 2010)
Two teams backed by varsity
squads will dispute the PBL 2010 PG Flex
Erase Placenta Cup championship. How ironic
is that? In a league traditionally dominated
by teams that have assembled the best possible
rosters made up purely of superstars, Pharex
B and Excel Roof have just broken a long-standing
and erstwhile invincible mold. Pharex B
has the core of the University of the Philippines
Fighting Maroons of the UAAP. Excel Roof
is born by the core of the reigning NCAA
champion San Sebastian Golden Stags. >>

Vic
Manuel: MVP
by Joseph W. Buduan (March
25, 2010)
That title has a nice ring
to it – and it might become more than
just a title soon. When some of the more
knowledgeable basketball pundits first heard
that Vic Manuel was going to play for Pharex
B in this ongoing PG Flex Erase Placenta
Cup, they were about equally divided. Some
of them thought he might finally get his
break with a new young team. Some thought
he would remain in obscurity with a new
young team. Some thought he had more than
enough game to take on the rest of the PBL.
Some thought his game was as good as it
would get in the wild and wooly NCRAA tournament.
