Ever Bilena stamped its class over Mail
& More, 89-76, for its second straight win while
UAAP champion Oracle Residences-Far Eastern University
made its presence felt in the Women's Philippine Basketball
League (WPBL) yesterday at the FEU gym.
For the second straight game, Gandang
Pinay leaned on the red-hot hot shooting of Marichu
Bacaro and Aimi Ono to tie Smart Sports-University of
the Philippines for second in the revival tournament
of the only women's league in the country.
The 5-foot-3 Bacaro, the reigning UAAP
Most Valuable Player (MVP) from University of Santo
Tomas, came through with another brilliant all-around
performance, tallying 22 points, five assists, four
rebounds and four steals in 27 minutes while Ono tossed
in 20 points.
Bacaro was at her best in the third quarter
where she accounted for 11 of the team's 26 points that
saw the Gandang Pinay post a 67-49 advantage over the
shorter Mail & More squad.
Ever Bilena, owned by former PBL chairman
Dioceldo Sy, is gunning for its third straight championship
after winning the first two editions in the late 90s.
Oracle-FEU, meantime bounced back from
a stinging defeat to Discovery Suites-RP women's team
last Nov. 11 by beating Oracare-College of St. Benilde,
61-45.
Katherine Reyes topscored for the Lady
Tamaraws with 18 points, including 9 in the third quarter
that saw the Sheila Romero-owned Oracle Residences pull
away for good.
The Lady Maroons chalked up their second
win Saturday by downing Xtreme-RP youth squad, 80-54,
through the efforts of Fille Cainglet and Fatima Tolentino,
who both fired 17 points each.
